At the Primary School, we have been shocked and saddened by the tragic loss of one of our longest serving teachers, Jill Birch.

Jill will be very fondly remembered by a generation of children who were taught by her over the past ten years, mainly in the older infants’ class, where she provided a lively, creative curriculum, alongside Sue Evans with whom she shared the post, and through which a strong professional partnership and lasting friendship developed.

She capably spearheaded the developments in Information and Communication Technology within school during a decade of real change, and in more recent years, took on the role of the school’s Special Needs Coordinator (SENCO). To both of these roles, Jill brought a tremendous ability to solve problems and to achieve her aims despite often working within tight budget and time constraints. As SENCO she had the rare ability to accelerate the system of processes and meetings that ensure that children’s needs are properly met.

Jill was an astonishingly active member of the school staff, playing tennis and hockey on a weekly basis as well as being a regular member of a local running club, a keen traveller, walker and skier.

Our thoughts are very much with Jill’s husband, Ian and their daughter Eleanor at this time.
