Display of Work, 1975

A display of work was held at Meldreth Primary School on Friday evening when the children took their parents into the hall and classrooms to see their own special contributions.

The youngest children had made a variety of 3D pictures, some achieving a 3D effect with the aid of shells, matchboxes and fabric.  Others were in mosaics and in the form of face masks.  There were also models made with educational toys, junk models and folders of the children’s work.

Class 2 projects were reflected in composite pictures of dinosaurs.  There were also models of these in clay and an extension of the theme in a collection of “Thingles”.

Class 3, which had recently paid a visit to Colchester’s Castle Museum, made a display of a Roman street, Roman soldier, Roman woman and mosaic pictures.  There were also a collection of junk monsters and of tufty toys, whirligig balls, mice and caterpillar door stops.

Class 4’s recent expeditions to Hatfield House and the Lewis Carroll exhibition were recorded in pictures and writing.  Other projects illustrated and described were ships, birds, and the Story of the Hobbit.  They also had a collection of needlework – wombles, collage pictures, Christmas stockings, hobby horses, glove puppets and Tufties.

The special contribution of Class 5 included a study of many aspects of life in Meldreth – geography, nature, industry, agriculture, etc.  …

The children who leave the school this year have taken part in special interests.  Their work in the woodwork section included pictures, cotton reel holders, forts, boats and dolls’ furniture.  Technical drawing books were on display as was their work in a special mathematics section.
