The picture which shows the Wellington Room is very personal to me and my family as it has my father, Bill Nunn, my grandfather on my mother’s side, Luke Pettit and my father-in-law, Les Wilkins who at the time I did not know as I didn’t meet my husband until a few years later. All three of them were presented with their 25 year watches and joined the club on the same day.
My Father Sid Ash is in the pictures of the 1958 and 1959 long service awards. I am also proud to own his engraved gold watch which I still wear today on special occasions.
Ref. the Long Service Award photograph March 28th 1958. Ted Day is the third from left on the second row. He was the driver of the well known Puffing Billy. When my mother was in hospital, my sister and I stayed with Mr. & Mrs. Day for two months. I remember our breakfast every morning was cereal with milk that had been boiled the night before and we all squabbled to get some of the cream that had congealed around the edge of the saucepan. Also I was fascinated by Mr. Day’s bushy eyebrows!!
My grandfather, Mr Bernard Osborne, is in one of the photos and I am proud to say I am the owner of his 25 year gold watch. I used to meet him from work in Melbourn from a blue and yellow Atlas bus. I was no older than five or six at the time.
